Dr Zia Zuberi is Clinical Director of Cardiology services at The Royal Surrey County Hospital. He is an experienced Consultant Cardiologist & Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiologist. He is an internationally recognised clinical expert in the treatment of diverse heart rhythm problems (cardiac arrhythmia) such as atrial fibrillation (AF) and is an expert in catheter ablation to treat cardiac arrhythmia. He treats both NHS and private patients in Surrey and London

Dr Zia Zuberi is a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist who practices in Surrey and London. His NHS practice is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford where he is Clinical Director for Cardiology and he also operates at St George’s Hospital in London. He has extensive expertise in adult cardiology and in addition has a particular interest in the management of heart rhythm disorders (Electrophysiology) such as atrial fibrillation. He has performed over a 1400 catheter ablation procedures and additionally has expertise in complex pacemaker implantation (CRT/ICD) for advanced heart failure and pacemaker extraction. He has performed more than >1800 device procedures.

 

Zia graduated Proxime Accessite to the University of London Gold medal for Medicine from University College London (UCL). He was awarded 1st class Honours for his intercalated BSc. His research in cardiac electrophysiology was supported by a prestigious MRC clinical training fellowship and led to the award of a PhD. Additionally he holds several academic prizes including the John Murray Prize in medicine and was runner up for the President's medal awarded by the Royal Society of Medicine for cardiology. He continues to be active in cardiac electrophysiology research with a number of contemporary important publications in the field of cardiac electrophysiology

 

Zia has trained in leading cardiology centres in London including King's College, St George's Hospital and has undertaken an advanced interventional cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at The Heart Hospital. He is trained in both cryoballoon (freezing) and radiofrequency based technologies for AF ablation and is recognised as a high volume operator. Additionally he performs complex pacing for advanced heart failure such as cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) to improve symptoms of cardiac failure and ICD implantation to treat ventricular arrhythmia and prevent sudden cardiac death.
